Focus On the Priorities
People will often switch off during training when they start to get the sense that what they are learning is not all that important, or relevant to their role. So you do need to figure out what is actually important, and what you can probably put aside. The clearer you get on this, the easier it is going to be to ensure that you are going to have the right kind of training all in all, and you’re going to find that it’s easier to keep people focused as well. Think about what you need to cover most of all and start with that.
Make It Interactive
In general, people are going to have much less fun with it if they are simply being talked to. Whereas if you can make the training experience more interactive, you’ll find that people are much more likely to go along with it, and to make sure that they are going to be really likely to enjoy it too. Consider getting some custom dry erase posters and other such kits, and starting to think about how you might be able to make the training a little more interactive. This is always going to help.
Keep It Short
If you are planning an entire day of training, you might want to reconsider. People really do only have a certain patience limit when it comes to this, and you’ll need to make sure that you are not overbearing them on that. Instead, consider doing a half day here and a half day there. You’ll probably find that you have a lot less burnout, and fewer people dropping out of the training too. It’s always wise to consider the actual concentration limits that people have, rather than those you would like them to have.
Avoid Going By Rote
You need to try and make it fun and enjoyable, and that means avoiding teaching by rote as much as possible. If you can do that, it’s going to mean that you are much more likely to be able to really make a huge difference to the experience, and that people are going to go along with it a lot more readily.
