Modernise Your Outdated Bathroom With These 7 Features

Is it time you freshened up your bathroom decor? When considering a bathroom renovation, it could be worth adding a few of the following 7 features if your bathroom hasn’t already got them.

Mixer Taps

A lot of old bathrooms still have two separate taps on the sink and on the bathtub. This is a sure sign that your bathroom is outdated. Mixer taps allow you to wash your hands with warm water (instead of scalding hot or freezing cold) and they make it easier to get the temperature of the bath just right. You can hire a plumber to install mixer taps for you. Mixer taps come in all different styles including fancy designs such as waterfall taps.

Electric Shower

Instead of using hot water from the boiler to heat up your shower water it could be time to embrace an electric shower. Cold water is pumped into a shower unit, which is then made warm using an electric heater. This tends to allow better temperature control while not wasting water from the boiler. An electric power shower could also be worth looking into if your home has low water pressure — these showers allow water to come out with more force. A plumber-electrician will be able to install an electric shower for you.

Underfloor Heating

Stepping on a cold bathroom floor after having a warm bath/shower isn’t pleasant. Underfloor heating can help to keep the floor warm and will also help to evaporate water collected on the floor. Many modern bathrooms now have this heating as standard. Try looking into heating installation companies that are able to install underfloor heating for you.

Extractor Fan

All bathrooms should ideally contain an extractor fan. These fans help to pump out humid air and prevent damp and mould growth, as well as getting rid of bad odours. Extractor fans can be triggered to turn on whenever someone turns on the light or they can be operated separately. An electrician can install one for you.

Heated Towel Rack

Old bathrooms have radiators, while modern bathrooms have heated towel racks. These work just like radiators, but also allow you to hang up wet towels to dry. Heated towel racks come in all different designs. A heating plumber should be able to replace your radiator with one.

Multi-Flush Toilet

Multi-flush toilets allow you to choose between a hard flush and a soft flush. This prevents you having to use a full flush every time you use the toilet. Toilet flushing is one of the biggest sources of water usage in your home — the soft flush allows you to conserve water. Hire a plumber to install one of these toilets for you.

Mirror Defogger

Tired of your bathroom mirror getting steamed up every time you want to use it? A mirror defogger could be worth installing to keep your mirror clear. This is a heater behind the mirror that can help to evaporate condensation. Mirror defoggers are typically electric and can be installed by an electrician.
